The Methodology Reference
This is the deep side of the Lab: the structural methodology itself, the analyses it has produced when turned on specific domains, and the figures that go with them. It is where the working notes behind the papers are pulled together and made navigable.
The methodology
The methodology is set out in Paper 11, in the paper corpus: a per-domain procedure for finding a domain's irreducible primitives, decomposing each into partial levels, and filtering the result to what its dependencies allow, and a cross-domain architecture for connecting domains and reading patterns across them. Its first four layers are the worked core. The later additions are recorded as ongoing exploration, and are framed that way rather than presented as a finished extension of the framework.
The posture is part of the method: the methodology treats its applications as exploration, not as evidence for itself, and keeps the line between describing a structure and claiming it explicit.
The domain analyses
The methodology was developed during the entity system's construction and has since been turned on other domains. The analyses here include:
- Biology and abiogenesis — the chemistry-to-biology transition read as progressive hardening; the bridge to the entity system's computational reading.
- Physics — an exploratory reading of physics treated as an information-substrate domain.
- The software landscape — the structural and deployed comparisons that place the entity system among other distributed systems.
These belong to one family — the same procedure pointed at different substrates — and they cross-link to the papers that state their results in the corpus.
Figures and reference libraries
The figures are produced by the compute layer and can be re-run from source rather than redrawn by hand; each carries the analysis it illustrates. The glossary is the textual counterpart to the cross-links: an authored vocabulary, resolved against this corpus so each term is shown where it is actually used.
