Why

The earlier name, "Dirac Information Substrate," embedded the Dirac operator into the substrate's identity. This had two problems:

  1. Over-commitment to a specific operator framing. The Dirac operator is one candidate evaluator within the spectral-triple framework, which is in turn one candidate framing of the physics substrate. If the spectral-triple framing or the Dirac-operator-as-evaluator choice turns out to be wrong, the substrate name would have to change with it. The substrate is the underlying thing; the operator is one mathematical handle on it.

  2. Planck is the more accurate primordial reference. The Planck quantum of nature (Planck length, Planck time, Planck energy) is the physical scale at which the underlying carrier sits. "Planck information substrate" denotes the substrate at the scale of physical reality without committing to a particular operator framing. Planck units are well-established and independent of any specific quantum-gravity program; the name remains stable as the operator framing evolves.

The rename is therefore a separation of two concerns: the substrate (now Planck) and the evaluator (Dirac operator, candidate). The Dirac operator remains the specific candidate mathematical evaluator; the Planck substrate is the underlying thing the operator is a candidate description of.

Each of these locations should be read with the understanding that "dirac-substrate" and "Dirac Information Substrate" refer to what is now called the Planck Information Substrate. The substantive content is preserved unchanged.

Reading the corpus during the transition

For any reader (human or LLM context) encountering both names in the corpus:

The renames in the live papers, canonical analyses, and active working notes are complete; the deferred renames in data files, scripts, and outputs do not risk the old name slipping into a paper because those locations are not paper-content surfaces.

Future operator-framing changes

A consequence of separating substrate and evaluator names: if the underlying physics framing changes — e.g., if the spectral-triple framework is displaced by a different candidate mathematical realization (causal sets, spin foams, asymptotic safety, etc.) — the substrate name does not need to change with it. "Planck information substrate" remains a stable name for the underlying thing; only the specific evaluator candidate and the operator-level description would update. This stability is the central motivation for the rename.
